CCD - Miss Costa Rica Sims - Crown

Every beauty queen wears a crown, and in Second Life, there seem to be so many pageants and royals of one sort or another that one can buy crowns right off the shelf.   But, the Miss Costa Rica Sims pageant is no ordinary contest, and the winner of next month’s title will wear no ordinary tiara.

For the ultimate victor who will carry the title “Miss Costa Rica Sims 2010,” she will wear a crown and jewels specially made available through a partnership of Costa Rica Sims and Caithlin Carter Designs.

Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with Ms. Carter about her work:

PR: Your jewelry is very elegant.  How long have you been making jewelry in SL?

CC: I started making jewelry in May 2007. When I was born, in a weeks time I started with my first buildings: jewelry and accessories for personal usage. I had a strong preference for prim jewelry and accessories, instead of clothing or simple texture jewelry. After half a year I had quite a collection already and decided to start a business: Caithlin Carter Designs. The opening of my first store was January 1st, 2008.

PR:  What is the creative process for you?  How do you come up with an idea for a new design?

CC: My inspiration for designs comes out of different sources. I can be inspirated by my own imagination, my own RL jewelry collection, RL jewelry designs, RL and SL fashion and my CCD models give me a lot of inspiration too. For example one of my favourite dresses I have is an asymmetrical design, one shoulder covered with fabric and the other isn’t. I couldn’t find any jewelry to match it with my dress. I took the challenge of creating an asymmetrical jewelry design for one of my favourite dresses.

Creating new designs can be triggered by jewelry ideas, but as well by the lack of something in my inventory.

PR: How did you come to be involved with the Miss Costa Rica 2010 Pageant?

CC: The Costa Rica Sims, CEO: Giancarlo Takacs and organizer of the pageant: HarMonica Aabye asked me to design the crown and matching jewelry set for the Miss Costa Rica Sims 2010 pageant. I feel very honoured and it was lovely to make a design for this special occasion. Besides the crown and jewelry I’m honoured to be one of the judges in this pageant as well.

PR:  I absolutely love the pieces you made for the pageant!  What was your inspiration?

CC: Thank you! I’m happy to hear that you like the pieces. Costa Rica has beautiful nature treasures that inspired the design, such as:

* Volcanoes; which are represented by the Rubies
* Rainforest; which is represented by Emerald
* Water; which are represented by Sapphire
* Air; which is represented by the white diamonds

Besides this I tried to achieve a very rich appearance of the total collection and especially for the crown. Becoming Miss Costa Rica Sims 2010 is a big achievement and I believe that the crown should represent this. The use of platinum and the shiney white diamonds, also known as “reflective diamonds” gives the collection this rich and luxurious look.

PR: You’ve recently set up a shop in Costa Rica Sims’ Commercial District.  How important is it, do you believe, for SL merchants to establish a presence in planned communities like CRS?

Costa Rica Sims’ Commercial District is a high quality and up standard shopping district. It’s lovely to be part of shopping area like Costa Rica Sims’ Commercial District. The area has high class shops and you can find there a lot of famous brands. The shopping district gives a lot of variety to provide the customers in their shopping needs. Being part of such an upper class area will add value to your brand.

Besides reading my point of view about Costa Rica Sims’ Commercial District, my advice for the SL merchants would be: visit Costa Rica Sims’ Commercial District and see for yourself :)
